Engineer says sewer work being completed
After having sewage backup in their basements twice in a years time, a group of homeowners in Peru are wondering what’s being done to make sure it doesn’t happen again. They were at last night’s informal meeting with their concerns. Engineer for the city, Roger Chamlin went down a list of projects he and Public Works Director Don Kowalczyk’s staff have been performing. Chamlin plans to go over the progress in more detail at the next Citizen Sewer Committee meeting. It’s been scheduled for Thursday September 11 at 7pm.
No Strike For Streator Teachers
A possible teacher’s strike was averted for the Streator Elementary School District. Around 1:30 this morning, the teacher’s association and district administration reached a tentative new contract. The teacher’s had been working without a contract as of August 15th. The deal came after six negotiating sessions and seven hours of negotiations last night.
Smoke testing Thursday and Friday in Peru
Smoke testing isn’t over in Peru. Employees of Teenie’s will be smoke testing the sanitary sewer line that serves Park and Gunia Avenues. If you live in that area, you could notice a non-toxic white smoke coming into your home. If it does, open a window for ventilation. Smoke should leave through the vent on your roof. The testing will be done tomorrow and Friday.
